His expertise spans the full spectrum of criminal cases, including complex economic crimes, corruption-related offences, drug trafficking, violent crimes, cybercrime, and white-collar prosecutions. Clients and peers recognise his ability to handle sensitive, high-profile, and politically nuanced cases with discretion, technical excellence, and unwavering commitment to due process.

Mr. Mao’s career path uniquely prepared him for leadership in criminal defence and litigation. After graduating from the Royal University of Law and Economics, he gained early practical experience as a lawyer’s assistant at DFDL. His subsequent service in public institutions—including the National Election Committee and the police—provided rare, first-hand insight into investigation procedures, evidence handling, and the inner workings of Cambodia’s criminal justice system. Since 2021 he has also served as Deputy Director of the Inspection Department at the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia, further strengthening his authority on professional standards, ethics, and regulatory oversight within the legal profession. This combination of private practice, public-sector experience, and leadership at the Bar Association, together with more than a decade of continuous private practice since 2014, underpins his deep expertise in criminal procedure and defence strategy.
